"SIVAJI" - The Boss undoubtedly !!!

The American Consulate General Mr.David Hopper when on a visit to Chennai couple of days back happened to watch the premiere of this movie in Satyam Cinemas and this is what he had to say –“…The energy and excitement of the action on the screen was equaled by the energy and passion of the audience…Neither in US nor in any other countries where I’ve lived, have I had such a cinema experience…. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie… “ (source: The Hindu, 18th June’07)-----this sums it all !!! if a man of one of the topmost cadre of the most sophisticated country of the world who can’t understand the language can enjoy like this, then others ??? (its upto you to imagine)

It Can never get bigger than this ! This line was the universal comment about SIVAJI-THE BOSS right from the day of pooja! And why not, If the team comprises of Rajini+Shankar+ARR and top technicians from the country unite for a mega project, the expectations for this movie is expected to be huge and it was huge! But the question is whether the movie has met the expectations, and the answer is “Ya it has just managed to in style “

“just managed” --- hmm I did use this word purposely because when I was in the interval break of the movie I really didn’t think that I would make this statement. But I rather we, stood up in chorus at the end of the movie to say “coooooooool”………..

SIVAJI-THE BOSS is nothing but a great team effort, a dream team to be precise with effective contribution from all the members and it is clearly visible in the screenplay..if one of the member fails at a point the others come to rescue firing on all directions and hence the success ! The key members for this success are Shankar(rightly the captain),Thotta tharani,ARR, KV Anand, Sujatha, and last but not the least, man of the movie-Superstar !

Before getting on to know about the performance of the above said members a peep on to the screenplay of the movie !
“enna pa murder case ah “ “ILLAI”… “thiruttu, brothal case ah” “ILLAI” …… “sex padam yedutthu internet la pottiya” “HMM ILLAI”…. “appo ennadhaan panniney? “ “MAKKALUKKU NALLADHU PANNINEN”…. “appo unna ulla pudichi poda vendiyadhu dhaan” ..”(A BIG LAUGH)”….. this confrontation in the very first scene of the movie says its story line…… The movie opens up in jail like this, followed by flashback… A wealthy US return, software system architect comes back to India with almost impossible dream of giving free education and health care to poor. The first half tells us how the hero fails totally in his mission and the second half portrays his win in a grand style. Pretty simple outline but a mega display ! Like the hero, the director also falls a bit in the first half but he lands safely in the hands of his colleagues viz. Thotta tharani , ARR and ever dependable Super star”….like everyone I had thought(infact mistaken) that the first half could’ve been better as it didn’t have any major part of the main story line, but I accepted my guilt, infact a few flaws in the slow and steady first half and a few logic missing sequences was made to forget in the second half ! And at the end of the movie,any sensible thinker would understand that therez no way that more of the main story theme or action sequences could have been kept in the first half. The movie ramps up like a super jet in the second half ! When these top technicians are at their best at a point of time, it can be called as second half of the movie- SIVAJI ! And the last 20 mins ……a treat for every one who can enjoy ! Let me not go deeper into the story line of the movie, Rajagopalan wants everyone’s mind to be fresh before they watch the movie. Regarding the performances of the individuals,
Suman suits his character as a tailor made shirt. His white n white with black coolers, rooky smile and a cool tone, he has lived as Adhiseshan, thanks to the mentor Shankar. It will go down as one of the best roles for Vivek, he appears with rajni in almost all scenes except for a few and songs ! His timing comedy with Rajni is a laugh riot at most of the places, and few mokkais too appear here and there.”chumma chinna pasanga yellam virala uyarthi punch dialogue pesuraan pa, nee inimey pesaadhey pa” , “ivar thalaila yaaro kaara kuzhambu oothitaanga pa” are some of the few where the theatre turns electric. The scene following rajni’s mms, and when rajni sells his car vivek proves that how good a character artist he is ! Shreya saran, she is sure to disturb many in their dreams. Modern fits or homely dresses, it suits her to perfection. Dance movements are also pretty good. Not letting her just to come as a doll in the movie but also giving her scope for acting in a couple of scenes including an important scene (which leads to the climax of movie) is shankar’s touch ! Bose Venkat, Manivannan, Raja, Raghuvaran,Vaidivukarasi all of them have done their part to perfection !

And about the technicians,
Let me start with Thotta Tharani, this man is sure to get an award at the highest level for this movie, I shud write a separate write up to describe about his works. Each song speaks a lot about his works and ofcourse Shankar touch written all over it. Be it the Vaaji song with a historical palace set up or the sahana song with amazing glass works(absolutely mind blowing) or the ballelakka song with typical village scent or the style song with refreshing sets. Hats off sir ! Not only the songs, his works speak for him in the climax as well (Central Govt could put an eye on this reg the originality of currency notes). Not to forget his works for the musical instrument shop, sivaji’s home etc etc, even microscopic thing had been taken care. The photograph of Suman along with Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan singh kept on his office table, to just show the man’s voice, is one of the example of the great Shankar-thotta tharani partnership !

KV Anand, no introduction needed for this man in India. One can see the same KV Anand whom we had known so far ! The apt lighting for every scene or song tells his mastery he learnt from the school of PC Sriram. The freshness in the face of Rajni,Shriya through out the movie, the camera angle he had chosen for the fight sequences, the long shot in new york, the crowd coverage, picturisation of all the songs,etc one can enumerate numerous things which portrays his potentials.

AR Rahman ! I know I’m no way fit to write a review for his work when he is at his best. Yes, he is at his best in Sivaji be it the Songs or the BG score. Starting from the title card where he gives a modern and fresh score for the SUPERSTAR logo, till the climax fight scene, its ARR all the way ! Its totally a new look Rahman for a Shankar movie and its proved again. The music he scores when the title card displays ‘Sivaji’ (which also comes during high voltage scenes), is simply best.I’m searching for the same to keep it as my ringing tone! When Rajni roars saying “FFFIINNNIISSSHHH……”, all high voltage sequences with suman, plead to explain Shreya, jail sequences and (gonna be world famous) climax get up, all the way ARR has given a new dimension.

Sujatha,actually I’m an ardent fan of this writer and I’ve admired about his knowledge! Few dialogues are noteworthy and few make us understand that still there are lot and lot of things around us that we don’t know ! The information regarding CPR, hawala, what black money can do/is doing to economy, mentioning of the docs involved in a plan approval etc is simply wonderful.dialogues like “indha ooru la rendu vishayatthai patthi pesa koodathu, onnu karpu, innono karuppu” , “kidaiccha ponnoda vaazhradhai vida, pudiccha ponnoda vazhradhu dhan better” , and the terrace conversation involving Rajni and vivek sujatha needs special mentioning !

पीटर heyn tells why he is shankar’s favourite in many fight sequences, though a few are a bit draggy. The climax fight sets the fire hard on the audiences. Antony could’ve done better in the first half where few parts are seen like been inserted, but he too compensates his patchy first half into a racy later half. Manish Malhotra is no doubt india’s best costume designer. All the costumes used here are just rocking.

Now about the architect of the movie, Shankar ! To be frank comparing to his previous BBs viz. Indian, Mudalvan the screenplay is weaker and it clearly shows in certain areas in first half where the master has inserted a few things to fill up the space, and like his prev movie ‘anniyan’ there are a few holes in the screenplay logic as well ! Also, one thing Shankar is said to have certainly missed is the grand opening which every SS movie has, which is awaited eagerly by millions of fans(he has compensated totally this in second half) ! But, like I said earlier, apart from these, right from frame one its shankar’s magic written all over the movie.The driving force behind all the above mentioned technicians to perform at their best is one word ‘shankar’. You can find the richness in every frame. The song picturisation is amazing, no one can match Shankar in this aspect ! Also the thinking cap of Shankar stretches by leaps and bounds. The way in which black money is converted to white money, the methods he proposes to eradicate white money from India(viz.money card), usage of latest technologies for the turn around of events viz.self destructive programs,mms etc its Shankar all the way ! Thanks Shankar, for letting us know how Rajni will look if he were an European! The amount of effort he has put in the “oru koodai sunlight” song just tells the whole story! But at the outset, Shankar who normally believes only in his script rather than the hero, has given equal importance to the hero as well. And ofcourse, this man hasn’t let down his director as well as his countless fans !

If you ask me whether it’s a Rajni starred Shankar film or Shankar directed Rajni film, its more of the latter, no doubt! Assisted by the top most technicians of the industry, Rajni has taken the onus of audience watching the screen without any other thoughts for 3 hours, and he has very much succeeded in that. In an interview, he said that “I’m just a puppet in this movie , all credit goes to Shankar! “ the statement shows the greatness and diplomacy of the man, but one can’t deny the fact that but for his presence this script would have been most feeble, as Shankar himself has said in a statement “he has penned down the screen play with only one man in mind- Super Star”. Sathyama solrenga , super star has carried the whole film on his shoulders with his mere presence. Be it,
· Displaying of his own styles, viz. in eating chewing gum(center fresh sales is gonna raise higher) , or tossing the coin or in the song sequences or when tapping of fingers at the end, everything is ‘cooooooooooooooooooool’…..
· Delivering a missionary’s speech when he expresses his dream to the big heads of the society or when he gives one infront of auditors
· Displaying stupendous humour in shreya’s house and with neighbours, when trying to become whiter,or when he attempts to suicide. “boova da,pappu boova” J…imitating MGR, Sivaji and Kamal….man you have proved that you’re still one of the best in comedy....the theatre just bursts into laughter
· Expressing love to Shreya trying to explain her
· Disappointment when approval is denied to him for his plan
· Anger when bribe is demanded
· Embarassment when he is made to give bribe and when he loses everything
· Terror in the fight sequences..the eyes says it all
· Heart filled sorrow when he speaks to raghuvaran and Shreya through mms
God ……I can just enumerate so many things…………..Apart from these there are many highlights of the movie as well..the Rajni-Suman sequence in the tea shop…to me the scene of the year (like the oonjal scene with Ramya in padayappa), the style in which he says “aadi nee oonum comedy keemedy pannlaye..idhu black मनी chellam…” and the scene in which he makes minister to sign the document …scene when suman gets arrested…..nothing but festival inside theatres !!! Idhu oru pakkam na, “kanna panninga dhaan da kootama varum, singam single ah dhan varum“ nu sollumbodhu its whistles all over….chumma adhirudhu la....Abirami complex 3 times, Albert 3 times, Trichy kalayarangam 4 times, even the theatre I watched, 2 times, these are not the number of shows but the no. of times “athiradee” songs had been played on the first day first show…As shankar had said only rajni can suit in this song …this song is one and only for rajini .. for more about this watch it yourself to experience…..it will go down as one of his best shot songs……… not to forget the climax block-the style and dialogue delivery, the villainous laughter, the way in which he says “naan MGR”……. “BOSS, mottai BOSS”. …..thalaivar thalaivar dhaan nga..i’m going for third time this week J ! Chumma rendu padam hit aagitaaley naalaya superstar ivan dhaan nu film kaatra pasangalukku matthiyil, I donno how this man, now being called the super star of the whole country, can be so down to earth ! the scenes in which he says “chumma kamalahaasan maadhiri aagi kaatren paaru” and the way he dances for a vijay song imitating vijay, naalaya superstar naan dhaanu orutthara orutthar thittikingraley, thambigala, konjam katthukonga ivar kiteerndhu!

Overall to sum up, Superstar+Shankar combination has given a true thorough entertainer and do watch it in theatres yourself to know it better. I found few people had given ill remarks about the movie for those who say that first half has nothing meaningful in that I’ve given explanation above and those who say its “not good , not upto expectations” , I’ve only a single piece of advice to them, “guess you’re expecting too much on everything in your life, which is out of scope, and this could only result in disappointment always….konjam kammi pannikonga! “….For all those who have read this till this point, first of all a big thanks for your patience! If you haven’t seen this movie, believe me , do watch it you’ll enjoy, and those who have watched it already and totally not agreeing with me, read the previous line again(friends wen a thing is accepted by thousands n if u don’t, I can just pity u), and for others- when next ?

The director of the film Venkat Prabu was once questioned in a chat show –“what will you do if someone claims and files a case that the story of Chennai-28 is mine ? “ he replied “chancey illai, I will win the case for sure” “how? “ “padathula dhaan kadhaye illaye, then how come they can argue that kadhai ennudayudhu !!! “…॥Yes ofcourse, indha padatthula kadhaye illai, but why do you need that when you are able to make the audience enjoy every minute of the movie!!! Comparing to two of the latest movies[(expected high coz that were movies of leading hero and respected director respectively), which boast of having wonderful story line, have only managed to either make the audience feel that they have lost something in this world by telling about some ‘logic less mother sentiment’ , or have made audience run out the hall in the interval by putting full time mokkais in the name of ‘advice for youngsters’] Chennai-600028 stands tall !!!

The film depicts happenings in the life of a ‘gully cricket team’ members during a span of 1 year between two cricket tournaments. The very first few reels of the film itself gives you an impression that you are gonna enjoy for the next 2 hours or so. The cricket team comprises of a Coffee-shop waiter,a college student,an ambulance driver,a petty shop owner,a software engr,a mechanic,few unemployed guys etc all belonging to the same area, sunnambu kaalvai,chennai-28. Now the question arises-“who is the hero of the film among these? “ answer-“none of the above”. The actual heroes of the film are cricket bat, tennis ball and stumps. Yes, that’s because these guys’ passion, time pass, hobby,thoughts in short their life is to play cricket(like many of us in some point of time of our life, though not now), and apart from cricket the moments they share, small quarrels, the parties, their love etc etc are put together in an refreshing format.
The film has two love tracks , the first one is the one that you could find in coffee-shops, pizza huts,city centers etc which comes out of mere fantasy(actually I wont call it as LOVE, hmm perception differs though) and the second one is the one that you could find in a middle class environment , which starts as sighting and ends as love is life-life is love. But, hats-off to the film maker, for keeping these love tracks as just side tracks. Half way thru the movie, I actually thought “pochu da ! love,love failure, status problem, fight between friends for a girl etc etc nu mokkai poda poranga da”, but to my joy it was not the case.The director has made a strong point that love alone is not life. Hats off man ! Apart from the lively screen play, special kudos to director for a hostile environment and character selection. Many scenes make you laugh out loud, infact louder. The intro scene of the boys,opponent team person’s entry into the area, love proposal rehearsal, bet match,the climax etc etc all these scenes are of that category….special mention to Premji, whose very appearance on screen gives you a sense that you’re gonna laugh in a few seconds.
Dialogue writer/Director, are very intelligent enough to have written dialogues which are very famous to this kind of situations। Premji often telling(Chandramukhi prabu style)-“enna kodumai sir idhu”, makes the whole theatre burst into laughter। “machan pls da balla offside la podu da, legside la kaatina kizhichiduvaan da” “balla fulla podu da mundam, nadu kuzhi la kutthina balla thedi kittu irukka vendiyadhu dhaan“ “machan ninnu aadu, wide vaangiko” how many times we have come across such dialogues in our cricketing days :)!!!
Padam fulla verum kootthu mattum dhaan adichirkaanga nu neenga ninaichaa, you’re wrong !! Friends getting united after dispute, ready to throw away love for his beloved friend and the ambulance driver’s regret in the climax, all these scenes will hold your heart to some extent for sure.Every character in the film has done his/her part.
Music has a very important role in the film and yuvan has proved his magic again. Unpaarvai meley pattal,and yaaro needs special applause.One can’t stop humming these romantic melodies. The climax song makes the audience dance in the aisles. vaazhkaya yosinga da ,a modern day commandment for youngsters. Many noteworthy lyrics to list, viz. –“uzhaikkum kaiya nambi naalikku ulagamey irukkudhada” “natpukku kooda karpugal undu nalla therinjukka da, arpudhamaana nanbargal serndha vetrigal kuviyumada” “innaikku sirippaa, naalaikku muraippa innamum irukkudhada,andha rodhanai namakku ippo yedhukku ushaara irundhukka da, फिगुरा nambaamal puzhaichikkada”.
Special thanks to the film maker for maintaining dignity in slangs with the environment the film is revolving around but I couldn’t refrain myself in questioning him for keeping that guest house song which I think is a major minus point in this otherwise lively, refreshing and decent film.
People who have come across these cricketing days in their life will surely wish to restart those days again after watching this movie and people who haven’t will sure regret a bit atleast for missing those enjoyments and parents who had wondered till now as-“ indha kozhutthura veyil la indha pasanga vilayaandu ennatthai dhaan saadhikka porangalo ?” will get some sort of answer !

In short, Chennai-600028 -If you want to enjoy 3 hours leaving all your thoughts/worries aside

"SIVAJI-THE BOSS" -SONGS

Sivaji songs got released ‘officially’ yesterday(2nd April) and just a day has got over, reports say that (though 3 songs popped out unofficially few days back) the audio sales is set to hit a new record !For eg. Spencer’s ‘music world’ alone had sold more than 500 cds till 3pm yesterday(read in a newspaper hoarding this morning) ! With piracy growing great guns daily, its amazing to see audio sales launch at this level. One might also think this initial sales might be just because of the hype given by the dream combo Rajni+Shankar+ARR, and would reduce when days roll ! If you had thought on that lines, I would just say you’re simply wrong !
I heard these songs, in fact have been hearing, since yesterday morning, and they are different, and gets better everytime when heard…trademark ARR style songs ! In Chennai, there are seven FM channels(active) and at a time one can hear a sivaji song being played atleast in any of these channels ! In short, at present talk of tamilnadu is SIVAJI-The Boss.Just a peep into these songs:-

1.Ballelakka – Na.Muthukumar- SPB and Chorus
Rajni’s intro song ! But, this doesn’t comes under the category of typical Rajni intro song. You will not find any punch lines or any piece of advise. A tamil folk style composition,spb at his best(breathless at few places, mind blowing ! ) and fans have to gear up to dance in the aisles for this song in the theatre. Special credit has to go to the lyricist, to have brought the gist of village tamizhar life in his pen- “aadu-maadu mela ulla paasam veetu ration cardil serka solli ketkum….verum thanni ketta moru tharum desam…pakkatthu veetukkum serthu samaikira anbu ingu vaazhum !”- very true indeed ! Good job sir !
In short, a song for the masses !.

2.Oru koodai sunlight-Pa.Vijai-Suresh peters,Blaze,Rags
I did mention earlier that songs are different…this one would top that..i haven’t heard a song like this in any of the Indian movies so far….should be a trendsetter..ARR should have composed this one bearing two things in mind,
(i) the song should be different and the beat and ramp of the song should be worldclass and should make youngsters die for this one !
(ii) songs yaarukkum puria koodathu
And ARR has succeeded in both !
The song is a kinda American jazz/rap or whatever they call.There are few Spanish lines in the song too :-o . Sathyama solren, no one can sing this one in any orchestra !
In short, old people moonji sulikka vaikkum, youngsters puruvatthai uyarttha vaikkum !

3.Poombaavai aambal-Vairamuthu-Hariharan,Madhusree
Vairamuthu and ARR combo for a foot tapping duet in the voice of hariharan, so you could imagine how good it will be ! We know about Vairamuthu’s interest and expertise in writing romantic duets and this one is no exception. No one can match him in the usage of tamil words.(Fyi, aambal and mouval are names of flowers and the rest is for your imagination). Though vaaji..vaaji..sivaji sounds comical when said, when it comes from madhusree it will make you hum automatically.
In short, a foot tapping duet and nice to hear.

4.Athiradikaran machan-Vaali-AR Rahman,Sayanora
Some of you who have heard these songs a couple of times could wonder that which song iam referring to here. “athiradikaaran machan..” idhu maadhiri yendha songum start aagalaye nu ! But, fyi this is the starting line of the ARR sung song. ARR has sung this song superbly(also telling himself that,” lyrics book paarkaamal oru payalukkum naama enna paadurom nu puria koodathu” ). But, to tell in a nutshell as one of my friend expressed after hearing this song in his own colloquial tamil – “ Rahman kizhiya vitrukaar da ! “ that’s exactly how the song is ! ARR at his best.. the beat, the pace, vocal etc are simply mindblowing…only vaali can pen for songs like this(in the series of sa re ga me from boys, even better than that)…. “Billa, Ranga, Baasha dhan, ivan pistol pesum besha dhan…”- should be feast for thalaivar fans on screen J
In short, a treat for youngsters and ARR lovers !

5.Sahana saaral-Vairamuthu-Udit narayan,chinmayee
-Vijay yesudas,gomathi sree
Next song is ready for caller tunes ! Should be the caller tunes of many in the near future.Song comes twice in the cds, and the latter one is sung by vijay yesudas(a bit slower and pathos one). ARR trademark romantic melody(in the series of kaatre en vaasal, sonnalum ketpadhillai, munbe vaa etc). Very pleasant to hear. Though Udit has pronounced tamil with great lethargy, still this song would go as one the super hit melodies of 2007. ARR humming between Pallavi and saranam is amazing. Vairamuthu-Tamil vilayaaduthunga avar kitte. People who can understand tamil well, would raise their eye brows when heard this song closely.When I heard this song before I just thought “ippadi oru romantic song namma thalaivar ku thevaya nu?” but after seeing the stills of this movie, “kandippa thevai dhaan”
In short, a pleasant melody. Will be liked by all.

6.The Boss-Na.Muthukumar-Blaze,Naresh Iyer
Supposed to be a small background song I guess(like B to the A, in Baba). Lyrics have been thrown as they wished to fill the wonderful beats(again)….”sachin adicha sixer, sivaji adicha puncture….” Lyricsts seemed to be in a hurry I guess….when this one is played during any fight sequence on screen, it will be just rocking to watch….hmm Shankar knows better !
In short, a powerful background song which will suit one and only for rajni !

As usual , if you don’t like ARR song first time, then its hit.. if u say “not bad” by hearing ARR song for first time, then its super hit, if u say “good” hearing the songs for the first time itself, its super duper hit….few songs are “not bad” at first time and few are “good” at first time !!!

Its unusual to see Rajni songs without any punching lines and advise mazhai ! If I’m not wrong, the last time a rajni film had songs like this was for “thalapathi”..i also would say that the last film in which rajni had actually acted with all his acting skills (in others his acting skills didn’t have any meat to eat) was “thalapathi”…….If Shankar had extracted everything from Rajnikanth as an actor (the rajni we had seen in mullum malarum,6 -60 varai, thalapathy etc), what better can he do for cinema lovers !!!

The released audio and the stills of the movie(Rajni looks amazing in that, that too the one with guitar in hand) have increased the expectations a lot.Now, the question is will Shankar satisfy the expectation ? But one can be assured that, if at all the movie is not great, it wont be worse.
In short, Tamilnadu awaits a grand feast in May!

TO ALL MY FELLOW CRICKET FANS !!!

23rd March this day brought an end to India’s world cup campaign, 2 days of bad cricket, lack of high level concentration and application,surmount pressure, few great deliveries, lady luck totally against us are some of the factors which caused us this state.I’m a fan of Sachin, and I admire him as a great batsman, but I don’t know whether someone would have scolded more than I did when he got out that night..though it was a good delivery, he should have played it, and if a man who had played 384 matches couldn’t handle the pressure then who can?…Sachin should take the responsibility for this followed by Ganguly(whats the need to play vaas like that?), and comes poor dravid who should have been a lot more aggressive and thought provoking to players and as a captain he should take the responsibility as he should have pulled up the players like what ganguly did last time !!! Some stringe action should be taken against the players, Dravid can be asked to step down(any way he’ll do it by his own), ganguly and sachin can be given severe warning, cut down match fees etc etc, and a reshuffle in the rest of the team etc…but I think these three players have got more punishment than what they deserved…..
Happenings of the last 2-3 days have made me feel bad more than what I felt when india lost……..the things which I saw, read,listened,over-heard have made me ponder that do people are really civilized ? Yes, I do accept that the above mentioned trio[ who were the main reason for even daily wage workers to become cricket fans by their play in the past years(Sachin in particular)]have committed a blunder, dark days in their life, but dark days are part of every human being..they are also human beings I suppose. I do accept the people representing say half of the billion populations should not commit this blunder, but I just throw a question to the so called social minded media and and the so called real patriotic people who want these players head to be chopped off along with their families, do you have the same feeling and aggression (which you have for just a game) in all anti-public events happening around our country??
Just wanted to quote some things friends- the famous news channels which boast about their telecast -right from india’s loss have been conducting polls, viz. what can be done to the Indian team ? where do u feel that Indian team is heading to ? etc etc and one of the famous answers they got respectively were “can be given saadis to wear and asked to cook food at home!!” “ Can ask them to go straightaway to graveyard with their familes !! “… aren’t they ashamed to increase the BRB ratings by this!! Friends, is this what you do if your near or dear face a failure in his/her life ?……… I can strongly tell that out of the 1 billion population the most saddest will be those 11 players… no one will like to lose on any game for that matter…… If u feel that cricket is more than a game and it’s a part of our life, then aren’t the players your family members? Is this what you do if one of your family member is depressed ? those who have watched closely the faces of dravid, Sachin n co in the final moments of the match, would have seen the distress in their face…….. Not a single news channel is an exception.. starting from Sun News to Times Now.. they want to make money out of every minute of India’s loss.. what a sadistic nature !! They are interviewing agitated public, and the words which come out of them scolding the players’ family members(though it was muted, we could guess how cruel the words were!) made me feel really sorry for these players who because of these 2 bad days(which they will never forget in their life) are now facing greatest humiliation !!!….they say these players play for just money and the funniest part of it that the above statement comes out the news channel who closely cover burnt down bodies of infants and telecast for money!!! If these guys have patriotism to their peak, they should have conducted a poll – Is the present govt doing good to people? Sms your views, we’ll telecast uncensored sms by you as we do for cricket !! will they ?……….. will they conduct a poll- should Laloo be suspended and asked to sit at home for his corruption? Neither they will conduct a poll like that and nor a person will send sms “will ask Laloo to wear saadi”..they know that’ll be their end… …… Coming to tamilnadu’s news channel, everyone knows abt them.. when heavy rain lashed the city few years back, they asked the public to say “ivvalvu mazhai peyudhu, indhamma adhai onnum thadukka maatengudhu ? “..such is the state of them…. They were interviewing TV personalities, crap directors, past heroes for their views on Indian team ..goddamn I seriously ponder how worse media has become which was once the key for India’s freedom struggle ! One cinema director P Vasu who had directed crap movies so far says “ Indians don’t know how to play.. in the first 15 overs no fielder will be outside and they should have used that….tendulkar should be asked to sit at home.. dravid should be given punishment “ …. Gautham a local dancer, who shows his face time n again in tv serials says –“ if I would have played there, I would have done better… tendulkar n dravid should be ashamed of themselves”………… I donno her name, a tv serial artist and an item number dancer in cinema says “ I cant believe this… tendulkar should sit at home “………… enna kodumai nga idhu…… yaaru yaaru public statement kudukradhu nu oru vivasthai venaama? If they are like that interviews of sadagoppan Ramesh and murali karthik were even more funny . “I think its time for Sachin n ganguly to sit at home… they donno to play” says Ramesh.. murali karthik says “ they should have applied themselves”……. Even we don’t have such a poor memory and we know how Ramesh and Murali kartik had played.. what to do- “yaanai kuzhi kulla vizhundha, ohnaai kooda yetti paarkumaam! “ Also was hearing the senseless radio channels… one guy just plays the interview of dravid before the start of world cup where he says we’ll do our best to bring the WC and then after that he plays the song “vaarthai thavari vittaai kannamma maarbu thudikkuthadi…….. “ ! great patriotism.. will he play our CM’s pre election talks and play the same song ?? he knows dravid or Sachin wont hire gangsters to finish him off !!! All these radio channels for just making money are making humiliation of these wounded players to the maximum extent !!! Coming to the so called patriotic people who owing to sheer patriotism are burning refugees of players, slapping them with chapels, abusing them and their familes with pure bad words in public televisions, staging protests etc etc.. I have a question for them too.. if you would have done the same things against cruel politicians(who have the fate of our life in their hands comparing to cricket which is just a game) atleast half of what you are doing here, India would have been a country what the poor man Mr.APJ still believes will become in 2020, by now itself ! Even my own personal example, I found that one of my close friend had tried to speak to me just after sachin’s dismissal that night(though I had slept then) to just tell me “what abt your sachin da? Have failed today also ? vetkama illai “ as if I’m sachin’s brother… isn’t he our Sachin who has played his heart out for 17 years for country….. do u take the failure as time to make fun of people ?...the same Sachin who was god to people when he played well, now has become a shit is it?
Coming by the argument “money”, I just want to take the trio as an example again… Sachin is 34 now, and has spent nearly 27 years of his life to cricket, and he still wants to play for country.. do u think that he wants money/fame/name/records so that he wants to play?? He has got these more than anyone in this country ! And this hasn’t come over single day.. started to play cricket with bleeding nose and fought for a draw in late teen ages, he has come over a long way…. take the case of ganguly.. this royal guy, was thrown out of team at 32 and fought his way back into team by 34! Do u think he needs more money, and so he came to play !! Are you people talking sense ? Same with the case of Dravid ! These three have records which very few in cricket can have! We should cherish them !! They had 2 bad days, which have caused them to great humiliation of their life ! They say they acted in ads and got crores! Why did pepsi gave so much money coz it wanted to beat coco cola !! It is the sponsors and advertisers who make them rich so much and not the players who go towards them for money… Why did Sony lose 500 crores, coz they bid so much for their own good coz espn-star was waiting with 450 crores……. Money , money, money ! I couldn’t imagine that this single world have even made professionals and literates to think uncivilzed !!!
Coming to present debate of sacking these trios from the team and pick the domestic players !!! Can anyone deny the fact that the selected team wasn’t the best team available ! Murali kartik says “tamilnadu players should have been given chance, and that would have made India perform better in this world cup”… if TN players are best then why can’t they win the national level tournaments ? Why is that Mumbai alone wins 40 times?…. Kaif’s coach now shouts at the top of his voice that if kaif had played he would have done very well…. We all know how many chances kaif was given… the bad thing that its not that we lacked potentials, but surmount pressure n obvious reasons gave 2 bad days of cricket, which brought the end of campaign !! Everyone shouts now to sack Sachin, dravid, n ganguly from team.. can anyone think of a ODI/Test line up without these players right now…. Since it will be last few years of their cricket, sensible thing will be to groom young players around these three for the future.. sacking all of a sudden all these players would put as way down the barrel and its meaningless totally! Now, BCCI should appoint people to go and search talents in the streets of India coz the whole domestic set up should change, and these 15 players are the best among all domestic players no doubt……. Accepted, we didn’t play well, we had a bad tournament and that’s not the end of it… 1987 champs Aussies crashed out of first round in 1992, so as SL in 1999… any team, any person, can have a bad patch.. now it’s the turn of our team….i repeat OUR TEAM !! is it not our duty to back them ? rather than shouting/making fun at the hour of failure out of stupidity/emotions or whatever….. The ironical part is even former players couldn’t understand that. Kapil now scolds the team at his best. Can’t kapil remember just few months after winning the world cup WI toured India and went away with 5-0 white wash in both forms of cricket !! Doesn’t he know that ODI cricket is just playing good cricket on that particular day !! This trio is capable and deserve holding the cup ! Iam afraid that owing to foolish protests all over country if the three resign now, it will be a worst end to three illustrious careers. They have the capability to play more cricket, groom fresh talents and leave them for future which they will do in the recent future. Please allow them to do ! End of road to WC 2007, is not the end of everything !!!
Please treat cricket as a game and cricketers as human beings !! Don’t treat them as GODS when they win and please don’t treat them as SHITS when they lose ! Iam a fan of cricket not a fanatic and I wrote this blog to just express my views on humanitarian grounds ! I’m sure that I didn’t pen all that I have wanted but owing to length I finish it. It’s the moment of failure for the famous Indian Cricket, now its our turn to support the players and back them to come out of depression and do well in the future and not by sending mails/messages by scolding and making fun of already wounded hearts(of both players and fans) !!!
I just finish this blog with a statement representing all those who support and back hearts of their near and dear in the moment of failure and depression-
“Its history that you didn’t play well, didn’t apply yourselves and the dreams have been shattered! Bad days are part of life and it can be made a good day if we learn the mistakes from those. Hope you learn them. This failure can very well be the beginning of a new era of a formed/moulded Indian team, and our support is there for you ! “

MOZHI-PARUTHIVEERAN : Tamil Cinema Flying High !

Correction in the title of this write up : Radhamohan-Ameer taking Tamil Cinema on to the next higher level by their masterpieces MOZHI and PARUTHIVEERAN respectively.
I’ve just watched these two movies and I would be committing a blunder if I didn’t ask(request rather) my friends to watch these… I would say these two movies are for “all those who want to witness how good cinema can be taken “…. I’ve put it a bit lengthy but its worthy for these two movies…..

MOZHI

Cast : Jothika,Prakashraj,Prithviraj,Swarnamalya,Baskar

Prakashraj once in an interview said that his plan is that he will act in any kind of movie good or worst just to earn money and with that money he wants to give people some wonderful movies…. Many just plan, many execute owing to sheer luck but only very few like this gentleman can plan and execute to perfection….. Thanks Prakashraj you’ve given us a wonderful movie….. Radha mohan had slapped the faces of masala directors and so called aspiring super stars of tomorrow literally saying that “ ippadiyum padam yedukkalaam” !

The story revolves around two friends who are musicians(pruthvi n Prakash) who happened to meet two friends (school teachers for the disabled) jo and swarnamaalya…… Jo happens to be deaf and dumb from birth (not blind) and the main story line is the love between the musician(pruthvi) and the deaf n dumb(jo)…… looks pretty interesting story but its far more than that……. screenplay- guess the director can take special tutions to some of the other directors around on this word…… just the characterization of the characters will justify my prev line….
Jothika, the very feeling I got after watching this movie – “alas ! we are not gonna watch her on screen any more.. what a wonderful actress ! “… I would rate this as her best film ever, a fitting farewell to a good actress…people would compare her performance with that of rani in black, which I would say is senseless comparison…totally different characterization: the former is a gutsy girl who wants to face the world with grit where as latter (blind as well) doesn’t know what the world is and afraid to face it…..jo’s eyes speak a lot, her body language excellent.... her character is a girl who don’t want anyone in the world to pity her and she has lived like that… scenes in which she just expresses her feeling when others hear a sound from a shell…. Her attempt to hide her love thinking that she’d’ve been loved just because of generousity.. her fear whether her child would end up like her….…. So on…. Jo we’ll miss you a lot !
Prakashraj….. cinema industry is blessed to have him….he is the sheet anchor of this film who carries this romantic script on his shoulders stopping your eyes to take away contact from the screen….. tamil la sollanum na “prakashraj scena poduraaru pa “….. the way he introduces with swarnamalya….. kalaaichifying the secretary of apartments…. The way he proposes his love…… the way he reacts after his friend tells why he loves that deaf n dumb girl etc etc.. do watch it on screen , you’ll know..…… though not a surprise performance from this man, still well done !
Pruthviraj and swarnamaalya…… have done their part to perfection …… Pruthviraj expression when jo explains what is life and music for her…. roaming in traffic with shut ears….. he has a wonderful career… …….have to mention about this man Baskar(for those who don’t recognize him(started off doing a deaf character in a serial chinna paappa-peria paappa and have done handful of movies viz. dum dum dum, sivakaasi etc)….. read in paper that Rajini wanted him to do a key role in Sivaji and you wud know why rajini wished so when you watch this movie.. he plays a memory loss professor and does a fantastic job…… Dialogue and music need to applauded specially…….. Vairamuthu shows us why he is called “kaviperarasu”……. “kadalin mozhi alayaa, nurayaa? Iyarkiyin mozhigal purindhuvidil manidharkku mozhigal thevai illai.. idhayathin mozhigal purindhuvidil manidharkku mozhiye thevai illai “……. Hats off !
The way the film maker had handled the characters is awesome…… many lessons of life to be learnt from this movie…. The gut jo’s charcter shows to face the world overcoming her weakness….. same case with swarnammalya, a young widow….. Prakash n pruthvi combo of taking life the way it comes , seeing humour in every minute of life etc etc….. You’ll return with heart filled joy and an added confidence to face life with a new approach when you come out of this movie…

PARUTHIVEERRAN

Cast : Karthi , Priyamani, Saravanan, Ponnvannan, a lot more people whom I’ve seen in villages(for that matter you’d’ve seen as well)

The first feeling I got when I was watching the movie is “astonishment” (Bramippu to say in tamil)…….. I really mean that…….

I whole heartedly request to all the critics and journalists,tamil cinema historians to put this man , Ameer, in the list of all time wonderful directors of tamil cinema…… ivvolavu yedhaarthama oru graamiya padam idhu varaikkum naan paarthathu illai……..
I just got the feeling that I’m witnessing a real life clippings from a life of man taken with a hidden camera….. even you would feel so….. the manner the director had handled all the artists is simply mind blowing……..
Karthi—wat to say abt this guy…. They say him that he was a software engineer in US.. karpooram adichu sathyam panninaa kooda yaarum namba maataanga…….. he has lived as Paruthi veeran…… amazing and very surprising to know that he is a debutant…… his slang, body language, tamil la sollanum na gramatthu landhu, yegatthaalam, kovam, saathi veri, kaadhal, yekkam, parivu, thudippu, thullal….etc n etc.. this guy has some inborn talents…. Warning bell for the so called future superstars-punch dialogues and shouting at the top of your voices is not acting.. watch Parutthiveeran to learn that. The mastery his brother(surya) got after so many years, he has got it in the very first movie……. Paruthiveeran (a small notorious criminal in the village whose hobby is to visit the local police station often) has a life time ambition of committing a huge crime and visit Central jail and hence forth become popular". This will sum up the character potrayed in detail..........
Priyamani- they say she is a Bangalore model…… I don’t believe this….. her portrayal as Mutthazhagu matches some of the all time bests you’ve seen so far.. her voice, dialogue delivery, her love(infact more than that) towards veeran.. her fight with parents for her love…. Fun with local ladies…. The climax(my god ! wat a performance! )……… directors should kill themselves for wasting this girl so far as a glamour doll………
Special kudos to Saravanan and Ponvannan.. Saravanan’s performance is superb… his combo with karthi (sandiyarthanam in short ) tickles your stomach… at the same time his reaction when priyamani scolds him expressing her love for karthi- where were you saravanan all these days? Ponvannan- his eyes shows it all……
Lot more characters can be highlighted(applauded rather) here…….. Kanja karuppu – natural talent, a one eyed small boy-rowdism at that age, priyamani’s mother, the artists who perform in thiruvizha, the character –ponamthinni .. so on……
You can’t find a flaw in the acting of a single kid who appears on screen even for a second…… the childhood days of veeran-mutthazhagu portrayed superbly……..
Music : Yuvan….. unlike is father who is a typical villager by birth, he is a metropolitan high class guy studied music in trinity college UK .. but he matches his work for this movie with that of his father…… fantastic work…… songs n background score depict exactly the atmosphere of parutthiyur…… “ayyayo”-song simply superb….. the humming of “yeley…..” by Manicka vinayagam is fantastic……camera work, lighting, editing, dialogue etc etc.. Ameer has taken cinema to the next higher level…….
You might wonder apart from story line I’m talking about all other things.. the story revolves around a caste-curfew between two relations, and in that midst the girl wants to give her heart n soul to her cousin who saved her life in the childhood……. Sounds pretty normal.. but that’s not the case…… this is not just a story.. but an episode infact an epic, happenings in life of a guy called ‘paruthiveeran’…… his killer instinct against opposite gangs…. His love episode…. About a girl whom he realizes that she will be the world for him.. and then his end !
The Climax: Iam just a bit afraid that this climax might prevent a few people from witnessing a wonderful cinema of all time… people might strongly argue that climax shudn’t have been so strong, but certain things in life are harder to digest, but have to accept that….. you would not have ever imagined in your life to witness a climax of this sort…. Weak hearted and children can avoid the last 10 mins but those 10 mins only fill your heart when you come out……. The movie has had a strong impact on me and the last few minutes of it are still in my mind and ears…..thats the power of this script and success of this director….. Please watch this movie and you would know.. words can’t explain more…….

TO SUM UP , I strongly feel that some of the modern day directors and heroes who say that we take cinema for just enjoyment by showing all kinds of craps on screen would have seriously felt ashamed deep inside their heart after watching these two movies, that comparing to these what they’ve made or acted are nothing but crap…………
You would miss something in your life if you don’t watch these two movies…….
